Moscow Denies Intelligence Sharing with Tehran Amid Regional Conflict

Russian officials have categorically denied allegations of intelligence cooperation with Iran during ongoing regional hostilities, according to statements made by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff following high-level diplomatic communications.

During a Tuesday interview on CNBC’s Money Movers program, Witkoff revealed that Russian leadership explicitly rejected claims of intelligence sharing during a Monday telephone conversation with President Donald Trump. The envoy expressed cautious optimism about Moscow’s assurances, stating the administration would take the Russians at their word while hoping such cooperation is indeed absent.

The diplomatic exchange between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin occurred amid growing concerns about potential Moscow-Tehran collaboration. Witkoff disclosed that he and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner had conducted a separate conversation with Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser, who reinforced the same denial regarding intelligence sharing arrangements.

These diplomatic reassurances come in response to recent media reports suggesting Russia has been providing Iran with sensitive information that could potentially compromise American military operations in the Middle East. According to sources cited in weekend reporting, this alleged intelligence could help Iranian forces target U.S. naval vessels, aircraft, and military installations throughout the region.

When questioned about the specifics of Russian-Iranian intelligence cooperation and its potential impact on U.S. military assets, Witkoff acknowledged his limitations as a non-intelligence professional. However, he emphasized that both Putin and his foreign policy team had consistently maintained their position of non-cooperation with Tehran during recent communications.

The controversy has drawn sharp reactions from the Trump administration. The president previously criticized media inquiries about potential Russian assistance to Iran, dismissing such questions as inappropriate given current circumstances. During a Florida press conference, Trump indicated that Putin had expressed admiration for American military progress in the ongoing conflict.

Intelligence officials quoted in recent reports have provided mixed assessments of Russian involvement, with some suggesting that while Moscow may be providing information to Iran, there is no evidence of direct strategic or tactical combat participation by Russian forces in regional operations.
